Creating with Intention
The flowing patterns found in nature, architectural motifs or minimalist shapes highlight the importance of drawing inspiration from your surroundings. I use this as a catalyst when exploring form and function in the jewelry creation process.
Each passing thought or idea is the foundation that links a concept into reality. By adding materials such as wire, chains and gemstones I began to think about what is needed to turn these components into wearable jewelry. This tactile experience of shaping metal and setting stones is where the magic emerges. Sometimes it’s organic experimenting with different arrangements - placing pieces here and there trying to find the perfect balance at other times it’s a thoughtful approach that lead me to ask questions like…
Is this going to be fabricated from wire, sheet metal or wax?
What tools will be required?
What gauge wire will I use?
What will be the size and shape?
Will this made using semi-precious, precious stones or both?
How will this jewelry be styled?
Kelly Necklace, Grace Necklace and Luna Earrings
Creating from natural materials that transforms into finished jewelry is a rewarding experience that is not without trial and error - it’s like a puzzle trying to figure out where each element belongs and imagining what you want the piece to look like.
When the final work is complete there is a moment of reflection for the process knowing the intention that went into making it empowers me and the appreciation for jewelry making.
